Medical Degree:
I am a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and completed my medical school and orthopaedic residency training at the University of Manitoba, in Winnipeg, Canada. I practiced in Alton, Illinois from 1991 until 2005, when I relocated to Griffin, Georgia and the Orthopaedic & Sports Injury Center of Griffin. My practice includes general Orthopaedics which includes pediatric orthopaedics, joint replacement surgery, arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine, and upper extremity surgery. I am a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, diplomat of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, the Georgia Orthopaedic Society, the Atlanta Orthopaedic Society, the Medical Association if Georgia.
Today, my patients have much in common with elite athletes. Everything that has been learned in treating injuries at the professional athletic level is being employed in treating injuries to the weekend athlete and even nonathletic injuries.
Some of my most common patient problems include broken bones, torn ligaments and strained muscles, often as a result of sports, work injuries or accidents. Treatment for such injuries could include bracing, casts, physical therapy and occasionally surgery to repair the damage.
Joint problems caused by overuse, degeneration or arthritis can often be relieved by medications, injections, or total knee or hip joint replacement. The Joint Replacement Center at Spalding Regional Hospital has been created to improve the outcomes of joint replacement operations and make the experience for the patient much more enjoyable.
Sports injuries in the region of the knee and shoulders such as torn ligaments or meniscus or tendons can often be successfully managed using arthroscopic techniques. These minimally invasive techniques often speed up the recovery time to return to full function.
Foot problems and ankle injuries can be very disabling and a combination of shoe modifications and/or surgery can offer considerable benefits. Surgery, however only sets the stage for a good outcome. Rehabilitation and physical therapy are often necessary to obtain maximum benefit and recovery from an injury or surgical procedure.
I view my duty to my patients to provide as much education and understanding of your condition as possible, so you can best manage your condition. I need to know how your condition affects your life in terms of work, family and recreation so I can provide you with the best option to treat your problem. The more informed you are, the better you will be able to participate in your progress, so I encourage your questions.
I currently live in Griffin with my wife Liz and enjoy involvement in many of our communities organizations and service groups. I enjoy giving presentations on orthopaedic conditions and health care issues to anyone who is interested.
I have offices in Griffin and Thomaston and perform surgery at Spalding Regional Medical Center and Upson Regional Medical Center.
